Jo Levine is a long-time resident of Washington, DC. She also lives part-time in Rappahannock County, Virginia, where she takes many of her photographs. She specializes in fine-art photography of landscapes, abstract designs, and scenes from around the world. She particularly values photography's ability to capture small details and transitory moments of beauty that might otherwise pass unnoticed.
Jo Levine fell in love with photography after her husband gave her a camera as a wedding gift. She took and printed her own black-and-white photographs using an improvised darkroom in her basement. For a time, she debated between pursuing photography professionally and going to law school. She chose law school.
After concluding a successful legal career with a federal consumer protection agency, she recently returned to the serious pursuit of photography. Her work has been selected for juried regional and national exhibitions, winning second and third prizes in two shows. In the fall of 2006 she was invited to join the Middle Street Gallery, an artist's cooperative in Washington, Virginia. Her work is in several private collections.
